Our club is now a member of the Nova Scotia Bikeways Coalition.  The Nova Scotia Bikeways Coalition was formed in January 2010, with Bicycle Nova Scotia as the secretariat. Founding members of the coalition include Bicycle Nova Scotia, Velo Cape Breton, Route Enhancement Committee of the Aspotogan Peninsula (RECAP), Clean Nova Scotia and the Ecology Action Centre.

The mandate of the Nova Scotia Bikeways Coalition is to implement the Nova Scotia Bikeways vision, which was adopted at the 3rd Nova Scotia Bicycle Summit in 2007. The vision is as follows:

All municipalities in Nova Scotia are accessible by safe bikeways.

Bicycle infrastructure and bikeways planning are integrated into

transportation strategies at municipal, provincial and federal

levels. Nova Scotia develops a culture of cycling that involves

residents as well as visitors from near and far.

The coalition sees bikeways as a combined network of trails, routes, bike paths and paved shoulders that connect to each other throughout the province, with standardized signage and maps.

The official launch of the Coalition will be on May 1st, at the fifth Annual Nova Scotia Bikeways Summit in Annapolis Royal. For more information, see Randonneur member Friedemann Brauer will be attending the Summit this weekend; in fact, he's riding down to Annapolis on Friday!
